Police release video of Surber murder suspect

Police today released video footage of what's believed to be the suspect in the Nov. 12, 2009, murder of Ocean Springs resident Michael Surber.

Police Lt. John Flowers said he's hoping the video footage will result in tips that lead authorities to the suspect's whereabouts after more than a year on the run.

The man police are looking for used the alias Jericho Cooper and was last seen leaving Skeeter's Billiards in Gulfport with Surber on Nov. 10, 2009. Through the investigation that followed, police determined that the man was the last person to see Surber alive.

The suspect was in the Richland area the weekend after the killing and was in Villa Rica, Ga., the week before the murder. The suspect, police said, has a history of skipping on bar tabs. The suspect is white and in his late 40s to mid-50's, between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall, and from 175 to 185 pounds. In the video, the suspect, has dirty-blond hair pulled back in a pony tail with a receding hairline.

Police found Surber dead at this home shortly after his friends at Skeeter's became suspicious when his vehicle sat at the business for two days, and he was nowhere to be found.

When he failed to show up for a planned billiards game, his friends went to his home and saw his body inside.

Anyone with information in the case should call the Ocean Springs Police Department at 875-2211.
