More than, 1,300 people crowded into the Gautier High School gymnasium to greet local hero Cpl. Anthony McDaniel at the 11th annual Veterans Breakfast.
In addition to McDaniel, a Marine who lost both legs and his left hand in an IED attack in Afghanistan this past August, about 400 veterans from all branches of service were honored, with students serving them breakfast.
Among the veterans attending was W. Guy Krebs, 90, of Pascagoula. He was a POW in Germany after the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
The school's choir and band used a slideshow to help honor all 92 service members who have died in the Middle East.

McDaniel was present with a special Purple Heart Award with a hat and pin.
McDaniel, who was a star basketball player at Gautier and graduated in 2006, said when gets his new prosthetics working, he plans to come and practice with the team and his favorite coach, Keith McQueen.
