Police have identified Cornelious Ferrande, 23, of New Orleans, as the intruder shot and killed at a home on Wembley Avenue on Sunday, police said.
Ferrande, residents said, went from home to home asking for money or a ride to a bus station before he tried to force his way inside the home of Charles Ray and Annetta Ray.
The couple suffered gunshot wounds after Ferrande attempted to force his way inside a back door into the kitchen area of the home.
Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus said Ferrande died of single gunshot wound. Police do not expect to file any criminal charges in the case.
