MS Coast deputy injured in four-vehicle crash identified, recovering

A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy is recovering after he was injured Tuesday in a four-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Biloxi Road and Stanley Road in the Latimer community, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco.

The crash occurred on the two-lane road around 4:15 p.m., Orozco said.

Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter identified the injured deputy as motorcycle officer Craig Scott.

Authorities said Scott was ejected from his motorcycle after one of the vehicles involved apparently pulled out in front of him, though the crash remains under investigation.

Scott was airlifted from the scene to USA Hospital in Alabama for treatment.

“He is doing better today,” Ledbetter said Wednesday of Scott’s condition. “He was in stable condition when he arrived at the hospital. It sounds like he will be in the hospital a little while longer, but he will make a full recovery.”

Scott, who is not related to Pascagoula Police Chief Terry Scott, has worked for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department for at least 12 years, Ledbetter said.
