Coroner IDs Ocean Springs driver killed when truck hit concrete pillar on I-10

Joseph Lasalandra, 79, of Ocean Springs died in a one-vehicle accident on the Lamey Bridge Road exit off Interstate-10 westbound on Friday morning, while his wife was hospitalized with a concussion and other injuries, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.

The D’Iberville Police Department is investigating the accident, While Lasalandra’s injuries were serious enough to kill him, Switzer said, he may have experienced a medical emergency that caused him to crash the couple’s pickup truck into a concrete pylon under the exit overpass.

D’Iberville Police Chief Marty Griffin said Lasalandra was pronounced dead at the scene. An accident reconstructionist is working on the case, Griffin said.
