Minor injuries reported after Ocean Springs officer involved in scooter crash

An Ocean Springs police officer was in his patrol car when he was involved in a crash with an electric scooter early Wednesday afternoon, resulting in minor injuries to the victim, Police Chief Steven Dye said.

The crash happened around 1:20 p.m. on Highway 90 in front of the Ocean Springs Police Department, a release said.

The Ocean Springs Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene.

The scooter operator was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital for treatment. The police officer was not injured in the crash.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an independent investigation. Neither the officer nor the person driving the scooter was identified.
