Border Patrol arrests 5 who ran from traffic stop in South MS, authorities say

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested five people who ran from a traffic stop Wednesday near Interstate 10, authorities said.

Federal and local authorities searched the wooded area near the Old Fort Bayou Road overpass Wednesday morning.

The five people were in federal custody by about 10 a.m., according to Chris Goff, a spokesperson for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear what prompted the traffic stop. Local authorities did not know the immigration status of the five people, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection did not immediately respond to questions Wednesday morning.
