Coroner identifies MS Coast man who died in Horn Island swimming accident

A South Mississippi man died Sunday after a swimming accident at Horn Island, authorities said.

Jordan King, 29, of Pascagoula, was with a group of people near the island’s west end Sunday afternoon when he jumped into shallow water, Jackson County Deputy Coroner James Prisock said.

Witnesses told authorities they carried him out of the water and tried to perform CPR. First responders with the Department of Marine Resources took the man to shore to be flown to a hospital. He died at the Ocean Springs Harbor, the deputy coroner said.

A cause of death was not immediately clear, but Prisock said it was not a drowning.
