A woman died Thursday night in Jackson County after she jumped from a moving car during an argument with a man believed to be her boyfriend, authorities said.

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies were called around 7:30 p.m. to Gautier-Vancleave Road near Pine Grove Road, Sheriff John Ledbetter said.

He said deputies found Celeste Bellard, 45, lying in the road.

Authorities said Adam Cross, 47, is charged with driving under the influence and told investigators he and Bellard were returning home after drinking when they began arguing and Bellard jumped out of the car.

Cross was held on Friday in the Jackson County jail on the misdemeanor DUI charge with a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.

Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. said Bellard died at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
