Dodge’s Southern Style in Gautier is temporarily closed for renovations, but the popular chicken spot could reopen as soon as August with a new floor plan, featuring updated seating, expanded restrooms and a hurricane-resistant storefront.

Located on the corner of U.S. 90 and Guillotte Drive, the business is one of the busiest Dodge’s sites in Mississippi and is popular with Ingalls Shipyard workers heading to or from work. Known for its signature fried chicken, the southern chain is often accompanied by a gas station and convenience store.

“The Dodge’s Corporation decided to do a complete makeover because it’s such a busy store,” said Dixie Glass owner Sean Westmoreland.

KPS Commercial Construction is leading the renovations alongside Dixie Glass and D & H Companies. According to Westmoreland, the building hadn’t been renovated since the 1980s.

“It’s basically being gutted and then, from the ground up, completely rebuilt,” Westmoreland said.

Jodee Spencer, who worked at the Gautier location for eight years and now leads the Dodge’s store in Mobile, said she’s excited to see the new location.

“We’re doing it for our guests, and that store definitely needed it,” Spencer said. “It goes beyond words on saying how excited we are to watch all that and actually be a part of it.”

Gautier Mayor Casey Vaughan said the renovation reflects an investment in the local community and job force.

“For years, Dodge’s has been more than just a gas station. It’s been a beloved community landmark, a go-to spot for hot meals, friendly service, and a place where memories are made over some of the best deli food around. We’ve all missed those famous chicken pieces, pizza sticks, egg rolls, biscuits, fresh sides and the warm sense of familiarity that only the Dodge’s store can bring. Thank you for your patience, your loyalty and your appetite.

“We can’t wait to welcome Dodge’s chicken back into full swing,” Vaughan said.
