Coroner identifies Vancleave woman killed in fiery Mississippi Coast crash
A woman is dead and a man was airlifted to a Mobile hospital after a fiery crash on Old Fort Bayou Road, Jackson County sheriff’s Chief Deputy John Ledbetter said in a press release.
Jackson County Coroner’s office identified the deceased woman at Christina Osborne, 41, of Vancleave.
Deputies at 9 p.m. Saturday responded to a call of a car with man and woman inside parked in front of a residence in the 7000 block of Old Fort Bayou Road.
The male driver of the vehicle, identified as Michael Grimes, 34, sped off before deputies arrived, hit a guard rail and crashed the vehicle in a ditch, witnesses told sheriff’s deputies.
A witness was able to pull the man from the burning car, but the woman inside couldn’t be saved because of the intensity of the fire, Ledbetter said in the release.
Deputies found Grimes unresponsive. He was taken to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula with unknown injuries, then airlifted to University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.
Ledbetter said the wreck is under investigation and charges are possible.
