Coast Guard finds ‘possibly abandoned’ yacht spilling diesel fuel into MS Coast bayou
A sinking yacht was found leaking diesel fuel into Fort Bayou near Ocean Springs on Sunday, the Coast Guard said.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report around 4:30 p.m. of a “possibly abandoned and partially sunken vessel” in the bayou.
Responders said it was a white 40-foot Hatteras Yacht.
Two Coast Guard pollution responders are on the scene and said the diesel spill “spans approximately 300 feet up and down the bayou. It is unknown how much fuel was on the vessel.”
For cleanup, the Coast Guard contracted E3 Environmental, which placed approximately 100 feet of boom around the boat.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation
