Pascagoula resident identified as man who died in a motel fire in Jackson County, authorities say

A 28-year-old man who died in a fire at King’s Inn Motel in Pascagoula on Thursday night has been identified as Donavan Montgomery , Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. confirmed Friday.

Montgomery died at the scene of the fire that was reported around 6:45 p.m., according to authorities. The cause of his death is believed to be smoke inhalation, Lynd said.

The motel is off of U.S. 90, also known as Denny Avenue in Pascagoula.

City firefighters responded to the call and found Montgomery dead in a room. He had been living there with his mother, but she wasn’t home when the fire broke out.

What started the fire is under investigation.
