Mississippi 614 reopens after fatal police chase in Jackson County, deputies say
A police chase that began in Alabama ended in Jackson County with a fatality Thursday morning, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
The man killed in the police pursuit is identified as Christopher Palmer, 61, of Pensacola, Florida.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said Mobile police began chasing Palmer through the downtown area at around 6 a.m.
Officers used spike strips that flattened the tires, but police say Palmer continued driving through Mobile and into Jackson County on Mississippi 614.
His car crashed into a ditch and caught on fire. Ezell said as officers approached the burning car, Palmer showed a gun,which kept the officers from helping him get out of the car.
Palmer died on the scene.
Mississippi 614 has reopened after being closed west of Stateline Road and east of Frank Snell Road in northeast Jackson County.
