No sign of helicopter after report of crash in Pascagoula River, official says

Coast agencies are searching for a possible downed helicopter, a Jackson County official said, but nothing has been found so far.

Jackson County Emergency Management Agency Director Earl Etheridge said just after 7 p.m. that boats from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Marine Resources were out searching the Pascagoula River.

WLOX-TV reported a helicopter had gone down in the river north of Interstate 10.

Etheride said no evidence of a crash has yet been found, but a marsh fire has been burning in the area.

A possible report of downed helicopter came in to the sheriff’s department earlier Friday, he said.

The Sun Herald will update this story as more information is available.
