A 5-year-old boy died Sunday after his mother accidentally ran over him, Sheriff Mike Ezell said.
Drayke Whittington had gotten out of the car to pick up Mardi Gras beads his sister had thrown out the back window, but his mother didn’t realize he had gotten out before she backed the car up, Ezell said.
It happened about 2 p.m. Sunday on Lily Orchard Road in a neighborhood in northeast Jackson County, he said.
Drayke died while being flown to Singing River Hospital, Ezell said.
