Man was sitting on railroad tracks before he was struck by a train, police say

A homeless man was sitting on railroad tracks early Thursday when he was struck by a CSX train and died, police said.

Jason Vonburg was 42 and lived in the woods, Police Sgt. Doug Adams said.

The train’s conductor told police the man was sitting in the middle of tracks east of Hospital Road about 2 a.m. and didn’t move as the train approached, Adams said.

Vonburg’s family was notified before police released his name, he said.
