The mayor and Board of Aldermen have hired a new assistant to the mayor who will run the city’s Facebook page and manage the city’s image on social media.
She’s coming to Ocean Springs from Alabama.
Cristina Werner’s title is executive assistant to the mayor. She will also write press releases and attend meetings with the mayor.
According her bio: “Werner is a graduate of the University of South Alabama, where she co-founded the first student-run advertising agency and increased revenue as advertising manager of the student newspaper, The Vanguard. She has honed her marketing and leadership skills, as well as her leadership strengths, in these roles, and most recently, as a Fairhope, Alabama, business owner’s administrative assistant.
“A Daphne, Alabama, native, Cristina is excited to now live in Ocean Springs and work with the new administration to contribute to the growth and success of the city.”
She told the Sun Herald, “This is a nice challenge. I’ll be doing a lot of different things.”
Mayor Shea Dobson said he found Werner through one of his best friends, an Ocean Springs resident he grew up with.
“That’s how I found her, but we hired her because she’s qualified and was looking to relocate here,” he said.
He said she has a degree in communication and marketing.
“I had a few candidates and sent resumes to aldermen. We agreed on her as a group,” he said. “I feel like I got the best person for the job.”
Before making the hire, aldermen took the position from under civil service protection that covers most city employees.
It pays $33,000.
