The Sun Herald asked Alderman Mike Impey something Friday that a lot of people have been asking him — what’s coming to the corner of U.S. 90 and Mississippi 57 in east Ocean Springs?
Ever since Tractor Supply Co. located a store in east Ocean Springs, people have been excited and anticipating more new development, Impey said.
So clearing the several acres on the busy southwest corner of U.S. 90 and Mississippi 57 triggered a flood of calls.
Impey said, “More calls and messages than anything since I have been in office.”
“Someone asked me on Facebook and people started answering with their wish list,” he said.
The wishes ranged from, “I hope it’s a Chick-fil-A to Cracker Barrel and even a Publix,” Impey said. “Publix seems to be a popular one.”
A Hardee’s and a Walgreens were among the guesses.
“We have put an emphasis on getting development out there,” Impey said. “People see land cleared on that end of town and it generates excitement.
“I have had phone calls, text messages, Facebook instant messages and, of course, face-to-face,” he said. “I spoke to our building official to find out because it became a deluge.”
The Building Department said the owner of the property — Three W Fontainebleau Property of Vicksburg — has the property up for sale and hoped clearing it would make it more attractive.
So Impey’s reply on Facebook: “The land being cleared out by 57 is nothing. The owners are just hoping it will help it sell.”
