A series of accidents closed westbound Interstate 10 through a good stretch of Jackson County most of Sunday afternoon and early in the evening, but the Moss Point Police Department reports traffic is moving again now.
Moss Point was working an accident Sunday evening at Mississippi 613 that had backed up westbound traffic to the Alabama line.
Early Sunday afternoon, the westbound lanes closed after an 18-wheeler caught fire. Elkins did not know the cause of the fire. Several minor accidents resulting from the slowdown kept a portion of the interstate closed. Elkins recommended motorists in the area take U.S. 90.
