Coast residents will have a chance to come together next week to watch one of their own shine in the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.
Buffalo Wild Wings at 15530 Daniel Blvd. will host TV viewing parties in honor of Gulfport native Brittney Reese, who will represent Team USA as she goes for the gold in the women’s long jump. The parties will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 5 p.m. Drink and food specials will be available.
The restaurant is off U.S. 49 and Landon Road.
Reese, who turns 30 on Sept. 9, won the gold medal in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Reese was given the nickname “Da Beast” when she was a member of the Ole Miss track and field team and competed in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and 4 x 100 relay.
The excitement surrounding Reese’s return to the Olympics is palatable on the Coast.
“Gulfport’s Brittney Reese is not only an Olympic champion, she’s an ambassador for the state of Mississippi and serves as an incredible role model for today’s youth,” said city of Gulfport spokesman Chris Vignes. “She’s known for returning home to Gulfport without all the big welcomes and fanfares to simply offer her time to motivate our local kids through her philanthropy work and get-active — she’s as good as gold in our book.”
