GULFPORT – The cause of a late-night fire on Beach Avenue is under investigation, authorities said.
As first reported as sunherald.com Thursday night, fire crews determined the house at 1511 Beach Avenue was vacant at the time of the blaze that started about 9 p.m. Thursday, said Battalion Chief Jamie Jenkins.
Six units responded and worked until about 12:30 a.m. today to put out the fire, he said.
Fire Chief Michael Beyerstedt told the Sun Herald last night that the house was abandoned, but neighbors have reported vagrants sometimes live there.
