Police are trying to identify a suspect in a 4:45 a.m. armed robbery at the Porter Avenue Shell station.

Detectives said the suspect is black, stocky and about 5-feet-11. He was wearing a blue hoodie with a “Tony the Tiger” head on back.

The suspect implied he had a gun but displayed a knife, police said, and he got in a scuffle with a male employee who tried to get away.

Anyone with information is asked to call police dispatchers, 392-0641, the Criminal Investigations Division, 435-6112, or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers, 1-877-787-5898.

The Porter Shell is used frequently in the early morning by residents who live nearby.

“I'd like to urge anyone who may have been in the area and saw something unusual to report it to Crime Stoppers,” said Brandon Payne of Crime Stoppers.

“Armed robbery is often a crime of significant violence,” Payne said. “Whoever is involved needs to be removed from our streets."
