Two Biloxi High students have chicken pox, school says

Just as the Biloxi Indians were ready to kick off the 2010 football season tonight at South Jones in Ellisville, two students associated with the team have been diagnosed with chicken pox, the school confirmed on its web site.

The school canceled the game against South Jones as a precaution. The school also canceled a volleyball game at Our Lady Academy and a mini-cheerleading clicnic, both of which had been scheduled for Saturday. A junior varsity game scheduled for Monday at George County also is off.

Parents of all Biloxi students are being notified about the two cases today through the school's automated telephone messaging service.

“Parents of children with known exposure should monitor his/her child closely for signs and symptoms of the illness; fever and skin rash,” advised Jalena Taylor, a registered nurse with Biloxi Public Schools. “If the child develops these symptoms the parents should keep him/her at home and consult your physician.”
