GULFPORT — A man shot in a confrontation with police has been released from a hospital and brought to the Harrison County jail and Police Chief Alan Weatherford has released the name of the officer who shot the man.
Sgt. David Wilder was placed on desk duty after the shooting the night of July 4 and has returned to patrol work following developments in an internal investigation, Weatherford said.
Bryan Matthew Casey, 25, had fired a gun at a person at The Columns apartments on Courthouse Road the night of July 4 and was threatening suicide when Gulfport police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 900 block of Courthouse Road, according to information Weatherford released today.
Police have said Casey pointed a gun at the officers before he was shot.

Casey was released from a Jackson hospital Thursday and brought to the Harrison County jail.
Justice Court Judge Diane Ladner set bond at $200,000 on two counts of aggravated assault.
The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation.
