Phone call leads Gulfport police to dead body in wooded area

A homeless man found dead near his campsite in woods off U.S. 49 appears to have died of natural causes, officials said.

Police received a call Wednesday morning and went to a wooded area off U.S. 49 near 24th Street, the area behind Taco Bell, Gulfport Police Sgt. Clayton Fulks said.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove went to the scene to start his investigation.

The man’s identity has not been released.
