Gulfport Music Festival, set to rock out at Jones Park this weekend, is being condensed to a one-day event pending severe weather from Tropical Storm Nate that could potentially hit the Coast this weekend.

Ricky Mitchell with Alpha Media said the festival will take place on Friday at Jones Park.

Ludacris, originally a headliner set to perform Saturday, will perform Friday night after 3 Doors Down.

Mitchell said earlier Monday that the show must go on.

Mitchell said a virtual village has been set up in Jones Park to facilitate those planning to attend the show. He said the festival has about 100 local stage hands and volunteers who help set up the massive stage and other amenities in the park, including 96 portable toilets.

“Should the weather get bad, we plan on breaking everything down as quickly as possible,” Mitchell said. “We are applying extra weights on the tents and the stage is electronic, so it will collapse with the push of the button and we hope the portable toilets are heavy enough to sustain the winds.”

It’s not clear if any of the other nine acts scheduled for Saturday will perform on Friday.

Saturday’s acts included Bubba Sparxxx, Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray and Shaggy.
