Woman leaving Cruisin’ concert in Long Beach dies after she was hit by a truck

A woman died Monday night after she was struck by a vehicle as she crossed U.S. 90 in at the Long Beach Harbor in front of oncoming traffic, Police Chief Billy Seal said.

A Cruisin’ The Coast event had ended five minutes earlier when June Stuart walked north to cross the highway at Cleveland Avenue, Seal said.

Stuart, 76, of Long Beach, had parked north of the highway and was leaving the Harbor after a Tip Tops concert, Harrison County Chief Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer said.

The police chief said Stuart was struck by an eastbound pickup about 9:05 p.m. East-west traffic had a green light, a witness told police.

Switzer said accident reconstruction was performed Monday night and the death will be ruled accidental.

“It appears the guy in the truck was just driving by,” Switzer said. “I don’t think he was attending the event.”

Stuart lived nearby, he said.

The concert began at 6 p.m. and ended at 9 p.m.
