A white Dodge pickup truck struck a Chevrolet car and the truck then crashed into a brick home Monday on Klein Road in Gulfport’s Orange Grove area.
A firefighter on scene said the brick house at the corner of Klein and Beverly Drive is vacant. It has a “for rent” sign.
Four people were involved in the incident and two people had minor injuries, said Lt. Jess Traina of the Gulfport Fire Department.
The crashes reportedly occurred after the vehicles were heading south on Olivet Drive and reached the stop sign at Klein. The vehicles crashed through a nearby chain-link fence and came to rest in the yard of a brick home with arches at the corner of Klein and Beverly.
The car apparently spun around and came to rest in the yard, facing east.
The truck plowed through the right front side of the home and stopped with its back end and truck bed sticking out in the yard.
Police had the driver of the pickup on one side of the road and the driver of the car on the other before a tow truck arrived.
“I’m the victim,” the driver of the car kept saying as he walked around and made calls on his cell phone.
Pamela Conerly and her daughter, Jessica Washington, live next door to the home that was struck. They stood at a wooden privacy fence and watched the aftermath as police cars stayed on the scene and a firetruck stood by.
“He (the driver of the truck) could have come straight across and hit us,” Conerly said.
Gulfport Police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said the crash is under investigation.
