A woman traveling in the rain on U.S. 49 at Pass Road on Tuesday took pictures of a state trooper who stopped to help a woman whose car had run out of gas.

“It touched my heart because the state trooper could have passed the stalled car and kept going, but he didn’t,” said Shannon Jones Bickett of Biloxi.

Bickett was northbound, heading to the Harrison County School District Office for a parents’ seminar on cyber safety. The patrol car and the woman’s car were in the middle of the intersection when Bickett noticed them.

The state trooper used his car to push the woman’s car to the Shell station on the northeast corner of the intersection, Bickett said.

The trooper, who had his headlights on, could have pushed the car off the road or kept going, she said.

It was a slow process, Bickett said, but the state trooper kept pushing the car until it was positioned at a gas pump. And he stayed with the woman until she began pumping gas.

The state trooper’s name wasn’t immediately available.
