The board of directors for a new Mardi Gras krewe coming to the Coast in 2018 want to encourage anyone and everyone to join their troop.

Wallace Schram of Biloxi has been involved in the Coast Mardi Gras scene since he was in eighth grade, he said.

He and several others have been meeting at Sipps Bar in Gulfport to plan parties to introduce South Mississippi to the Krewe of Dionysus, an LGBT-inclusive group that welcomes all.

The cost to join the krewe is $100, said board member Jeffrey Mayeux, and the dues can be split up into two payments.

The money gets access into the group and pays for a spot on a float during Mardi Gras season and entry into all Krewe Of Dionysus functions, Schram said.

They wanted to keep membership dues affordable and also hope to hold functions during the year to give back to local charities, Mayeux said.

Schram said he and the board looked at floats in New Orleans last weekend. The krewe’s goal is to host functions that are reminiscent of Mardi Gras krewes in the Crescent City.

The Krewe of Dionysus is hosting three launch parties: One Saturday at Sipps during their two-year anniversary party, another party on Sept. 8 at Club Veaux and the final shindig on Sept. 9 at Just Us.
