A small boat ran ashore on the beach in Gulfport on Tuesday morning with its engine still running and no captain nor passengers to be found.

The missing person has been identified as Kevin Anderson, who has a business on Courthouse Road.

Helicopters and boats are being used in the search, which started near the Port of Gulfport and has been extended to west of Ship Island.

The 17-foot Century boat was first spotted about 7 a.m. on the beach near the Port of Gulfport. Mississippi Department of Marine Resources personnel and members of the U.S. Coast Guard are patrolling the waters near where the boat was spotted.

DMR spokesperson Melissa Scallan said crews are still in search and rescue mode, with Gulfport Fire and Police departments, as well as the Parks Service and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office joining the search.
