The man found dead on the beach in Biloxi on Saturday morning drowned after the waders he was wearing filled with water, Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said.
Hargrove identified the man as Gunner Batia, 20, of Vancleave.
Batia had been wade fishing, as he had in the past, when he apparently stepped in a hole and his waders filled with water, Hargrove said. The cause of death was drowning and the death was ruled accidental.
Authorities responded about 9:50 a.m. to the beach across from St. George Avenue. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the Harrison County Coroner’s Office are investigating, with assistance from Biloxi police and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
