The ground-breaking for a Veterans Memorial wall was Wednesday, on the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, and work has already started on the tribute at the Town Green.
About 50 people attended the ceremony for the memorial, which will be built in four wall sections.
“We’re hoping to have it finished in about two months,” city planner Jeff Taylor said. He was charged by the mayor and council with creating the memorial to the veterans from all the services, prisoners of war and Merchant Marines.
Taylor said the granite monuments to veterans on display near the city’s public works building will be moved to the Town Green when the wall is finished. Plans are to add monuments and commemorative pavers as part of the memorial, he said.
