High bacteria levels prompt water advisory along Waveland beach
WAVELAND -- The state Department of Environmental Quality is warning beachgoers to stay out of the water along the shoreline from Oak Boulevard to Favre Street. MDEQ issued the advisory Friday afternoon after high bacteria levels were found in area water samples, Communications Director Robbie Wilbur said in a press release.
"This segment of beach is not closed," Wilbur said. "However, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in this area."
MDEQ is working closely with local officials to warn residents of the water advisory.
The advisories will be lifted after samplings show the water is safe for human contact.
