Police mum about death of woman found in Waveland
WAVELAND -- A woman was found dead inside of her home in Waveland Thursday afternoon, officials said, but they can't yet confirm or deny if foul play is involved.
Karen Humphries, 49, was pronounced dead by Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk just before 3:30 p.m. She was found inside of her house on the 600 block of St. Joseph Street after "someone called to have police check on her," Faulk said.
Waveland Police Chief David Allen said he couldn't confirm any details about the woman's death -- including whether or not it is believed foul play is involved -- until he speaks with family members.
Faulk sent Humphries' body to Jackson for autopsy. He said there "isn't anything clear about" the way she died.
"It's not explainable the way it is. We're just going to have to wait on some evidence," he said.
Crime scene tape was placed around the exterior of the house on Thursday afternoon. The Sea Coast Echo reports that investigators were seen entering and exiting the house.
Sun Herald will update this story online as more information develops.
