BAY ST. LOUIS -- A boil-water advisory went into effect for city residents Wednesday after a water main broke.

Bay St. Louis' Public Works Department issued the advisory Wednesday morning after a vehicle hit a fire hydrant.

The city will have to turn off the water to make repairs to the water main. After the repairs are completed, water will be tested for two days to ensure no contaminants have entered the pipelines.

The advisory affects residents south of U.S. 90 between Henderson and St. Charles streets.

Residents will likely have to boil tap water at least until Friday. The Public Works Department will issue written notices to the affected homes when the advisory is lifted.

For more information, contact the Public Works Department at 467-5505.
