Man shot in head multiple times was boyfriend of Waveland hit-and-run victim
WAVELAND -- A man who was gunned down Sunday inside his home on Dicks Street was the boyfriend of the woman found dead in a ditch on June 18, officials said.
Waveland Police Chief David Allen said police are searching for suspects in the shooting death of Jason Duffy, 42, of the 900 block of Dicks Street.
Police received a call about a shooting around 4:15 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Duffy had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
He was transported to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, where he later died.
Investigators from the Waveland Police Department -- along with state crime scene technicians -- were at Duffy's home into Sunday afternoon examining the crime scene. The incident is still under investigation.
Allen said Duffy was in a relationship with Shelby Luciano, a 23-year-old Waveland woman who was the victim of a hit-and-run.
Allen said there's no evidence the two deaths are connected.
"There's nothing that links this death with her (Luciano's) death at this point," he said.
In July, Luciano's family offered a $10,000 reward for information about her death.
Waveland investigator David Buckley told the Sun Herald police have talked to dozens of people and know Luciano had been walking to and from different homes to visit friends. He wanted to confirm the routes she walked and what time she was in each of the places.
Her body was found on the east side of the road near Spruce Street when a tennis shoe caught a motorist's eye around 6:30 a.m.
Anyone with information about Duffy's death should call the Waveland Police Department at 255-9191 or leave an anonymous tip on Wavelands Crime Stoppers Page, wavelandpolice.com.
Allen said police are not releasing more details on the shooting until the investigation is complete.
