Bay St. Louis Turkey Trot will benefit animal shelter
BAY ST. LOUIS -- The third annual Fit First Turkey Trot, a 5K race in Old Town Bay St. Louis, will commence Thursday morning to raise money for the Hancock County Animal Shelter.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. at the train depot. Runners will trot through Old Town to Beach Boulevard and circle back to the train depot.
The event will also feature chicken gumbo, mimosas, beer and a 1-mile fun run at 8:45 a.m.
Registration is $35 for the 5K race and $10 for the fun run. All proceeds go directly to Friends of the Animal Shelter, the shelter's charity organization.
Participants are asked to bring pet food as part of their entry fees. Each entrant will receive a wishbone medallion and a long-sleeve shirt.
Runners will be classified by age group. First-place winners will receive a Cornish game hen, second-place winners will receive a box of stuffing, and those who place third will receive a can of cranberry sauce.
Race Director Helene Loiacano Johnson said the race raised about $1,500 last year. She expects a similar crowd of about 400 runners Thursday.
Call 466-5732 or show up after 7 a.m. Thursday to register.
