A Bay St. Louis man was charged by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources State Marine Patrol with boating under the influence after he ran the boat he was operating aground near Highway 603 in Bay St. Louis on Wednesday.
Robert Nations, 31, of Bay St. Louis was boating in Four Dollar Bayou off of Semeru Street when he ran aground, ejecting his passenger, Shawn Murphy, 23, of Picayune. The boat jumped onto the shoulder of Highway 603. Passersby aided the men and called an ambulance. Nations was treated on site for minor injuries, and Murphy was taken to Hancock Medical Center where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
DMR Marine Patrol Officers Bryce Gex and Mike Yonce investigated the accident, and Nations was arrested on charges of BUI, disorderly conduct and failure to comply. He was held on bond pending release at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
As with all cases, the charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
