Officials are still investigating a Monday night accident involving a police car that claimed the life of one man and injured another.
Hancock County Coroner Norma Stiglet said Francisco Jesus Mendoza Suarez, 33, was struck by a car and died after the 9:57 p.m. accident that occurred along U.S. 90. The accident took place as a Waveland Police car attempted to cross from the east-bound turning lane to the far-right-hand emergency lane of the highway, where Suarez was riding a bicycle, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.
As the police car crossed the highway, it was struck by a Cadillac Escalade driven by John Boudoin, 23. The Escalade then veered out of control into the emergency lane, striking the bicyclist, said Cpl. Johnny Poulos, of the highway patrol.
The name of the officer driving the police car was not released.
