She was seated for dinner in a South MS casino restaurant. Then her life changed
An Alabama woman is suing Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast after suffering what her lawsuit describes as a severe injury to her right arm and hand.
Jimmie Cheri Webster and her husband sat down for dinner in July 2024 at Bogart’s Steakhouse in the casino resort at a table beside the windows, the lawsuit filed in Hancock County Circuit Court says.
Webster’s right side was nearest the windows. An employee was lowering the blinds when they fell, the lawsuit says, including the heavy headrail.
Her attorney, Steve Kennedy of Ridgeland, has filed a negligence lawsuit against the casino resort. The lawsuit says the casino failed to exercise reasonable care by inspecting the premises for dangerous conditions and remedying the problem.
Webster’s injuries required surgery and left her with permanent scars, the lawsuit says. In addition to her husband, she lives with her children and elderly parents. She took much of her satisfaction from cooking, cleaning and caring for the household.
Webster is right-handed, so her duties have been curtailed. “Her personal activities of daily living were, and are, severely altered and limited,” the lawsuit says.
She seeks unspecified damages to compensate her for the injuries, including medical expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. She also wants punitive damages, claiming the casino resort was grossly negligent.
