A man who was hit by a car Tuesday evening at the Walmart Supercenter in Waveland died of his injuries, authorities said.
The man appeared to be walking to his car when another car turned and hit him, Waveland Police Chief Mike Prendergast said.
Authorities identified the victim as Curt Beyer, 60, of Diamondhead.
Officers arrived just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Walmart on Highway 90 and found Beyer had been hit by a red Jeep Wagoneer in the parking lot, police said in a news release. The driver told police he turned left and did not see Beyer crossing the street.
The Waveland Fire Department and emergency responders treated Beyer at the scene. He was later hospitalized at Ochsner Medical Center, where he died.
The driver stayed at the scene, cooperated with law enforcement and volunteered to take a breathalyzer test, according to police. Prendergast said the accident did not involve alcohol or drugs and that the driver was “very upset.” The driver has not been charged with a crime.
Police are still investigating and will review video footage from Walmart, Prendergast said.
