A Diamondhead man died Tuesday after being struck by a trailer being towed by an SUV as he attempted to cross U.S. 90 in Waveland, according to Police Chief Mike Prendergast.
Waveland police responded to the scene at 12:49 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 90 near Arnold Street after receiving reports of a 69-year-old pedestrian, identified as Rob Macgregor Adams, lying in the middle of the road. Bystanders had started performing CPR on the man after the accident.
Pafford Ambulance transported Adams to Ochsner Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
According to Waveland police, a 2022 GMC Yukon driven by Lorna Landry of Lafayette, Louisiana, struck Adams.
Landry told police she saw Adams attempting to walk across the road and that she slowed down as he started running toward the passenger side of her vehicle. Landry said it looked like Adams had stopped in the middle of the highway, but then tripped and fell forward in front of the trailer as she passed.
According to police, multiple witnesses verified Landry’s account of what happened.
Police have determined that no criminal charges would follow and that alcohol or drugs did not play a factor in the accident.
