Owed money from the state? This MS Coast event could reunite you with your cash

One in 10 residents of Mississippi is owed unclaimed money and the state treasurers of Mississippi and Louisiana are hosting an open house event to help Coast residents find their cash.

Mississippi Treasurer David McRae and Louisiana State Treasurer John Schroder’s Unclaimed Property Team will be in Bay St. Louis Friday, Oct. 20.

The event will be from 2-7 p.m. at Bay St. Louis Community Hall, 301 Blaze Ave.

Also attending will be representatives from College Savings Mississippi to provide information how families can save for their children’s education.

A similar event will be held from 2-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19 at Slidell Municipal Auditorium in Louisiana.

Mississippi and Louisiana residents will be able to search for unclaimed money and get assistance claiming any cash owed.

McRae said residents of Mississippi may have lost track of funds left behind in Louisiana, and vice versa.

“Together, I’m hopeful that Treasurer Schroder and I will be able to return this money to their rightful owner, infusing our neighboring economies with a financial stimulus that can make both states a little stronger,” McRae said.

Those who want to check on money possibly owed them in Mississippi can begin the search at Treasury.MS.gov/Search or in Louisiana at louisiana.findyourunclaimedproperty.com. The search in Mississippi shows if the amount of money owed is under or over $100.
