A 3-legged alligator wanders into a Coast neighborhood. Locals say he’s a living legend.
He may be big, and he may be dangerous, but a three-legged alligator found wandering through a neighborhood on Thursday is a living legend in Waveland, locals say.
After Waveland police posted a photo of the gator on Facebook, neighbors said they know the reptile well.
The gator has been around for decades, according to residents, and lives in the “Blue Hole” lake off Henderson Street near Old Spanish Trail. The lake got it’s name because the water is usually clear.
Rachel Fricke Ladner, a neighbor who lives near where the gator was found, said on Facebook that the reptile was the one of local folklore.
“Thank god no one gold hurt by this old alligator,” she posted, and thanked Waveland police for “always showing up and doing a great job.”
The post has dozen of comments from residents who know the gator well. One commenter recalled how she and her husband used to go and feed the gator hot dogs. Others swam in the “Blue Hole” as kids and recount seeing the animal in the water.
Another said the gator “doesn’t bother anyone.”
“Never know what to expect on patrol!” the police department’s post said.
It’s not clear if the gator was captured by authorities. The Sun Herald has reached out to Waveland police for more information.
