‘The worst nightmare.’ 14-year-old girl killed in Hancock County shooting.

Hancock County residents are mourning the loss of a 14-year-old girl killed in a Bayside Park shooting on Tuesday.

According to the Sea Coast Echo, the teen was struck by a bullet at a residence on East Madison Street. Sheriff’s investigators were still at the scene late Tuesday night.

Law enforcement officials did not release additional information at the scene and would not yet say if the shooting was accidental or intentional, the Sea Coast Echo reported.

Bayside Fire Department responded to the scene and shared an emotional post on Facebook, asking parents to hug their children tight.

“This family has been through the worst nightmare tonight,” the post said.

The victim has not yet been identified, but tributes to the girl and her family are being shared on Facebook.

“Prayers for the family and our kids who were blessed to have had the chance to love her,” one person commented on Bayside Fire’s Facebook post.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office at 228-466-6900.
