Expect traffic delays on I-10 near MS-LA line after fiery wreck involving new BMWs
The outside westbound lane on Interstate 10 in Hancock County will remain closed after a crash on Interstate 10 near the Louisiana state line closed all lanes early Tuesday morning for several hours.
Hancock County Emergency Operations Center said in a Facebook post that the interstate from the new West Bound Scale location to the bridge will be down to one lane for up to two weeks.
In a press release, Mississippi Department of Transportation stated that the closure was to determine the needed repairs and that drivers should expect congestion in the area. Signs will be in place to alert drivers of the closure.
Mississippi Department of Transportation reported at 8 a.m. on Tuesday that I-10 was open again following a wreck that occurred around midnight. It took another hour for congestion on I-10 west near Diamondhead and on Mississippi 603 near the Stennis Airport to clear.
Mississippi Highway Patrol says a semi-truck car hauler crashed overnight. The driver escaped unharmed but the vehicles caught fire and were destroyed.
The truck was hauling seven new BMWs when it crashed into a bridge, according to NOLA.com, and the bridge had to be inspected before the highway reopened.
That portion of the interstate is a popular commute option for Louisiana residents who work at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, and for Diamondhead residents who work in Louisiana.
