An inmate has died at the Hancock County Adult Detention Center, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department announced on Saturday.

The sheriff’s department did not say how the inmate died, saying only that he “passed away during the night.”

The identity of the inmate is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Following the protocol of the sheriff’s department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations has been contacted to conduct an investigation into the death.

“At this time, there appears to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and MBI was contacted out of an abundance of caution,” the sheriff’s department said in press release.
