DNA could identify human skull found by dredging company, Coast coroner says
An investigation is underway to determine the identity of the person whose skull was found by a dredging company in Bayou Caddy, Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said.
The workers found the skull after it got caught in their equipment while they were dredging in the waters near Silver Slipper Casino.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources responded and called Faulk to hand over the remains
“It’s the upper part of the skull,” Faulk said. “I just hope they get DNA off of it because DNA will show who it is when it’s compared to a missing person.”
Faulk packaged up the remains and turned it over to Riemann Family Funeral Home. The funeral home is taking the skull to the state Crime Lab for an examination and DNA analysis.
It’s not the first time a human skull has been found in Hancock County.
In October 2019, someone discovered a skull in the woods between two Diamondhead homes and later discovered additional remains.
The remains in that case were of a man who had been reported missing.
